Fed: National interest test needed on foreign investment: Abbott
Opposition Leader TONY ABBOTT has backed his new finance spokesman in calling for a
more stringent national interest test for foreign investments.
BARNABY JOYCE opened the debate by saying Chinese state-owned corporate entities should
be banned from investing in Australian mining assets.
The senator says when you deal with those bodies .. you deal in fact with another nation's
government .. not a corporation.
Mr ABBOTT says while it has never been coalition policy to oppose foreign investment
in Australia .. there are some concerns when that investment is by state-owned enterprises.
